    This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of the elements cadmium and lead in animal feeding stuffs by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS) after pressure digestion. The method was successfully tested in the range of 0,015 to 5,65 mg/kg for cadmium and 0,18 to 40,3 mg/kg for lead in the following animal feeding stuffs: pig feed, sheep feed, phosphate and mineral premixture, mineral mix, CuSO4, MgO, CaCo3 and bentonite. For phyllosilicates (e.g. koalinitic clays) and feeds containing phyllosilicates the extractable lead content is of concern regarding current legislation and therefore the results of lead when using this standard may be overestimated. If the result for lead in phyllosilicates or feeds containing phyllosilicates is non compliant to current legislation using this standard the extraction mode 9.1.4 of EN 15510 shall be used for confirmatory purposes. The method limit of quantification for each element is dependent on the sample matrix as well as the instrument. For cadmium a limit of quantification of 0,05 mg/kg should normally be obtained while for lead, a limit of quantification of 0,5 mg/kg should be obtained.

ISO 15589-1 scope: This part of ISO 15589 specifies requirements and gives recommendations for the pre-installation surveys, design, materials, equipment, installation, commissioning, operation, inspection, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems for on-land pipelines, as defined in ISO 13623 or EN 14161 for the petroleum, petrochemical, and natural gas industries, and in EN 1594 or EN 12007-1 and EN 12007-3 used by gas supply industries in Europe. All contents of this part of ISO 15589 are applicable to on-land pipelines and piping systems used in other industries and transporting other media such as industrial gases, waters, or slurries. This part of ISO 15589 applies to buried pipelines, landfalls of offshore pipeline sections protected by on-shore based cathodic protection installations, and to immersed sections of on-land pipelines such as river or lake crossings. This part of ISO 15589 specifies requirements for pipelines of carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, galvanized steel, or copper. If other pipeline materials are used, the criteria to apply are defined under the responsibility of the pipeline operator. This part of ISO 15589 does not apply to pipelines made of reinforced concrete for which EN 12696 can be applied. NOTE Special conditions sometimes exist where cathodic protection is ineffective or only partially effective. Such conditions can include shielding (e.g. disbonded coatings, thermal-insulating coatings, rocky soil, etc.) and unusual contaminants in the electrolyte.

    This standard applies to welding processes where the skill of the diver-welder or welding operator has a significant influence on weld quality. This standard specifies essential requirements, ranges of approval, test conditions, acceptance requirements and certification for the approval testing of diver-welder or welding operator performance for the welding of steels underwater in a hyperbaric dry environment. The recommended format for the certificate of approval testing is given in Annex A. During the approval test the diver-welder or welding operator should be required to show adequate practical experience and job knowledge (test non mandatory) of the welding processes, materials and safety requirements for which he is to be approved, information on these aspects is given in Annex B. This standard is applicable when the diver-welder s or welding operator s approval testing is required by the purchaser, by inspection authorities or by other organisations. The welding processes referred to in this standard include fusion welding processes which are designated as manual or partly mechanized welding for diver-welders and fully mechanized or automatic welding for operators (see 5.2). All new approvals are in accordance with this standard from the date of this issue. However, this standard does not invalidate previous diver-welder or welding operator approvals made to former national standards or specifications, providing the intent of the technical requirements is satisfied and the previous approvals are relevant to the application and production work on which they are to be employed. Also, where additional tests should be carried out to make the approval technically equivalent it is only necessary to do the additional tests on a test piece which should be made in accordance with this standard.

    This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of the minerals calcium, sodium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and sulphur and the elements iron, zinc, copper, manganese, cobalt in animal feeding stuffs by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) after pressure digestion. The method was fully statistically tested and evaluated within 11 animal feeding stuff samples for the minerals calcium, sodium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and sulphur and the elements iron, zinc, copper, manganese and cobalt. For potassium and sulphur the HORRAT values were mostly higher than 2. Therefore, for these elements the method is more applicable as a screening method and not for confirmatory purposes. Other elements like molybdenum, lead, cadmium, arsenic were not fully statistically tested and evaluated within 11 animal feeding stuff samples because these elements did not occur in concentrations higher than the limit of quantification in most of these samples. A single laboratory validation is therefore necessary for the use of this multi element method for these elements. For phyllosilicates (e.g. koalinitic clays) and feeds containing phyllosilicates the extractable lead content is of concern regarding current legislation and therefore the results of lead when using this standard may be overestimated. If the result for lead in phyllosilicates or feeds containing phyllosilicates is non compliant to current legislation using this standard the extraction mode 9.1.4 of EN 15510 shall be used for confirmatory purposes. The method limit of quantification for each element is dependent on the sample matrix as well as on the instrument. The method is not applicable for determination of low concentrations of elements. A limit of quantification of 1 mg/kg should normally be obtained. NOTE – This method can also be used for the determination of minerals in products with high mineral content (> 5 %), yet for this purpose other more precise analytical techniques are available.
