    This Standard specifies a testing scheme and requirements for carrier bags that are suitable for the introduction into well managed home composting installations under ambient conditions. Carrier bags are considered as suitable for home composting only if all the individual components meet the requirements. The following five aspects are addressed: a) characterization; b) biodegradation; c) disintegration during composting; d) compost quality; e) recognisability. These five characteristics are suitable to assess the effects on the biological treatment process This standard forms the basis for the labelling of carrier bags suitable for home composting. NOTE 1 – Compliance with the requirements of this standard by the carrier bags entering the compost does not necessarily imply that a high-quality compost will be produced. This standard covers the home compostability of the carrier bags themselves but does not address regulations that may exist regarding the home compostability of any residual contents. It does not provide information on the biodegradability of carrier bags ending up in the environment as litter. This standard includes, for information, a guide to good practice in home composting (Annex C). NOTE 2 – Conformity with all of the requirements of this standard may be used as a basis for labelling and claims. It does not enable demonstration of biodegradation in other environments including professional organic recycling facilities

Scope This European Standard specifies a method for quantitative determination of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) (see Table ) in soil, sludge, sediment, treated biowaste, and waste, using GC-MS and HPLC-UV-DAD/FLD covering a wide range of PAH contamination levels (see Table 2). When using fluorescence detection, acenaphthylene cannot be measured. The limit of detection depends on the determinants, the equipment used, the quality of chemicals used for the extraction of the sample and the clean-up of the extract Under the conditions specified in this European Standard, lower limit of application from 10 μg/kg (expressed as dry matter) for soils, sludge and biowaste to 100 μg/kg (expressed as dry matter) for solid waste can be achieved. For some specific samples (e.g. bitumen) the limit of 100 μg/kg cannot be reached. Sludge, waste and treated biowaste may differ in properties as well as in the expected contamination levels of PAH and presence of interfering substances. These differences make it impossible to describe one general procedure. This European Standard contains decision tables based on the properties of the sample and the extraction and clean-up procedure to be used. The method may be applied to the analysis of other PAH not specified in the scope, provided suitability is proven by proper in-house validation experiments.

    EN adoption of ISO 18086:2015 (to replace EN 15280) ISO 18086:2015 Scope: This International Standard is applicable to buried cathodically-protected pipeline that is influenced by AC traction systems and/or AC power lines. In the presence of AC interference, the protection criteria given in ISO 15589-1 are not sufficient to demonstrate that the steel is being protected against corrosion. This International Standard provides limits, measurement procedures, mitigation measures, and information to deal with long term AC interference for AC voltages at frequencies between 16,7 and 60 Hz and the evaluation of AC corrosion likelihood. This International Standard deals with the possibility of AC corrosion of metallic pipelines due to AC interferences caused by inductive, conductive or capacitive coupling with AC power systems and the maximum tolerable limits of these interference effects. It takes into account the fact that this is a long-term effect, which occurs during normal operating conditions of the AC power system. This International Standard does not cover the safety issues associated with AC voltages on pipelines. These are covered in national standards and regulations (see e.g. EN 50443).

    This International Standard describes methods for preparing sampling plans and certificates and taking samples of solid biofuels, for example, from the place where the raw materials grow, from production plant, from deliveries e.g. lorry loads, or from stock. It includes both manual and mechanical methods, and is applicable to solid biofuels that are either: ⎯ fine (particle size up to about 10 mm) and regularly-shaped particulate materials that can be sampled using a scoop or pipe, for example: sawdust, olive stones and wood pellets; ⎯ coarse or irregularly-shaped particulate materials, particle sizes up to about 200 mm that can be sampled using a fork or shovel, for example: wood chips and nut shells, forest residue chips, and straw; ⎯ baled materials for example: baled straw or grass; ⎯ large pieces (particles sizes above 200 mm) which are either picked manually or automatically; ⎯ vegetable waste, fibrous waste from virgin pulp production and from production of paper from pulp that has been dewatered; ⎯ round wood. It may be possible to use this standard on other solid biofuels. The methods described in this Standard may be used, for example, when the samples are to be tested for moisture content, ash content, calorific value, bulk density, durability, particle size distribution, ash melting behaviour and chemical composition. The methods are not intended for obtaining the very large samples required for the testing of bridging properties.
